Successful study abroad requires responsibility, and the first step you need to take is to become an informed traveler. While this handbook touches on many important points, the ultimate responsibility for preparing for your trip abroad is up to you. We have included websites to point you in the right direction as you begin your research because the better informed and prepared you are, the more you will enjoy your trip.
The Summer Abroad Student Handbook (SASH) will help you complete the enrollment process and prepare for travel. It contains important instructions for securing your passport, obtaining required immunizations, submitting your fees, and applying for financial aid. In addition, the handbook includes sections with advice on keeping in touch, traveling through customs, and staying healthy while abroad. The SASH will also be available online in an interactive format at http://summer-abroad.ucdavis.edu in February.
Enrolled students will also receive a Program Specific Guide featuring information and advice tailored for their destination. All participants should read the SASH and their Program Specific Guide (PSG) thoroughly. Many travel and program questions are answered in these two resources.
Take notes as you read and if you have questions, contact the staff at Summer Abroad (summer-abroad@ucdavis.edu) or your course instructor. There are no stupid questions—only questions that show you haven't read the SASH!
