This Program carries a total of 8 units. Enrolled students must take both courses listed. Auditing is not an option.

English 139 provides you with an introduction to the literature of South Africa within the context of its history, culture, and nature. The literature primarily focuses on themes of individual and national identity. Nature and Culture 198 will introduce you to the rich cultural and natural histories of South Africa. The course is built around field trips to museums, art galleries, Edeni Game Reserve and close observation of birds, mammals, and plants. The two courses will run simultaneously.

These courses will be primarily graded on the writing you do and on your participation in discussions and field trips.
