Participants will live in Ryūkoku-sō, a student dormitory not far from the Seta campus of Ryūkoku University. The Seta campus is situated on the Hills of Seta, with a view of Japan's largest lake, Lake Biwa. Students can walk or take a short bus ride to campus.
You will also share the dorms with 7-10 Ryūkoku University students, or "tutors." Each week, the students will change, except for the 2 head tutors. This means that you'll have the chance to interact and socialize with 24 Japanese students. The tutors will serve as cultural brokers. In some cases, their English is limited, however a positive attitude can overcome language barriers.
Students will have the option of sharing a double room or a group "tatami" room. Students selecting double occupancy rooms will stay with other Summer Abroad students. It is suggested that those who prefer more privacy choose the double occupancy rooms. Students selecting the group "tatami" room will stay with other Summer Abroad students and Japanese students. Those who prefer a more social environment and would like to maximize their immersion in Japanese culture are encouraged to choose the tatami room. Please keep in mind that this option is best for those who travel "light," as closets will not be available in which to keep personal belongings.

Breakfast is served Monday-Saturday, except on holidays, when the dormitory kitchen is closed. Food at the dormitory, which also houses the Ryukoku University Basketball Team, is geared for athletes. Vegetarians can opt for the Japanese style breakfast which includes miso soup, rice, fish and pickles. Lunch and dinner are the responsibility of each student.
