Irish by birth, Dr. McElroy teaches English and Irish literature for the UC Davis Department of English and upper-division composition for the University Writing Program. Thoroughly conversant with modern Irish literature, he has organized a number of international seminars, symposia, and conferences on topics related to Irish literature and culture.
Ireland 2008 will, for the first time in the history of the Ireland Summer Abroad Program, spend time in Northern Ireland as well as in the south of the country. Based in Dublin and Belfast (two weeks in each), students will be able to explore all the major sites and cities -- Giant's Causeway, Glens of Antrim, Rathlin Island, Cliffs of Moher, Galway, Cork, etc.-- in an Ireland without borders.
