As UC Davis Summer Abroad programs are not affiliated with a host university, you will enter as a tourist - and can travel there for 90 total days. (See qualification below). The State Department website shows the requirements for travel for U.S. citizens:

*A passport is required to enter France and Monaco. A visa is not required for tourist/business stays up to 90 days in France and Monaco. The 90 day period begins when you enter any of the Schengen group of countries: Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, and Sweden.
Non-U.S. citizens should check for Visa requirements online at http://www.visahq.com/visas.php. Participants are responsible for obtaining their own visa. Summer Abroad will supply a verification of enrollment letter for non-U.S. citizens upon request.
Apply as soon as you consider traveling! In 2007 passports were delayed with the dramatic increase of passport applications.
