Travel Documents & Visa Requirements
As UC Davis Summer Abroad programs are not affiliated with a host university, you will enter as a tourist - and can travel there for 3-6 months as a U.S. citizen. Summer Abroad participants are responsible for obtaining their own tourist visa. Visit the State Department website for an overview of the requirements for U.S. citizens traveling to China:

U.S. citizens should visit the Embassy of China web site at http://www.china-embassy.org/eng/ for the most current visa information and instructions on how to obtain your visa.
Tourist Visa Requirements
- Your valid & actual passport which must have at least six (6) months of remaining validity with at least one blank visa page in it.
- One completed Visa Application Form (Q1) with one passport photo (black & white or color is acceptable) glued or stapled on it. The form is available through the Chinese Embassy website.
- Non-US passport bearers shall provide documents that entitle them to reside or work for an extended period of time in the US.
- An applicant who was born in China is required to submit his/her Chinese passport or last foreign passport with a Chinese visa when he or she applies for a Chinese visa with a new foreign passport.
- Tourists to China shall provide round trip air tickets and hotel reservation. (The hotel reservation letter was sent to class mail list.)

US citizens may apply for a Single Entry (valid for 3-6 months) , Double Entry (valid for 6 months) , Multiple Entry (valid for 6 months or 12 months) "L" Visa.

A Chinese-American may apply for a Multiple Entry "L" Visa valid for 24 months.
How to apply
- You may come to the Visa Office of the Embassy or Consulate -General in the consular jurisdiction in which you live to submit the application; or
- If you cannot come personally, you may entrust someone else or a travel/visa agent to come to the visa office of the Embassy or Consulate -General in the consular jurisdiction in which you live for the application process.
Non-U.S. citizens should check for Visa requirements online at http://www.visahq.com/visas.php. Participants are responsible for obtaining their own visa. Summer Abroad will supply a verification of enrollment letter for non-U.S. citizens upon request.
