This program is designed as an introduction to Argentine Culture through the written and visual representation of some of its most iconic figures (Che Guevara, Eva Perón, Jorge Luis Borges, the mothers of Plaza de Mayo, Diego Maradona, Quino's Mafalda, and Carlos Gardel among others). One of the objectives of the course will be to familiarize ourselves with the work of these authors/and or political figures and to study the ways in which they have been represented in different biographies and film. Taught in Buenos Aires, one of the most vibrant and cosmopolitan cities in Latin America, the course will take advantage of the rich cultural resources of the city. We will be visiting the Evita Museum, the Che Guevara house, historical sites (Plaza de Mayo), and a soccer museum.
The program has a social awareness component in which students will be able to perform community work at "Del niño Latinoamericano" soup kitchen, a non profit organization to help disadvantadged children in Buenos Aires. There will also be a trip to Colonia, Uruguay.
